What is しよう?

“～しよう” is the plain form of “～ましょう”.

If you don’t know what ましょう is, please read this article first.

Japanese grammar masenka vs mashou

We use ～しよう when we invite the listener, make a suggestion to the listener, or state your own intent.

ましょう and しよう emphasize your will, so it sounds like “I want to do ○○, so let’s do it together”.

Conjugation of しよう

This conjugation depends on verb groups.

Let’s see each group.

Japanese verb conjugation rule with chart

Group1

U sound changes to oう.

For example, かく(kaku)→かこう（kakou）.

はなす(hanasu)→はなそう(hanasou)

Group2

Take る and put よう。

For example, みる→み→みよう.

たべる→たべ→たべよう.

Group3

くる→こよう

する→しよう
